How long could you go without a smartphone?
I am Me
I am Me Month ago
I go hours without on a daily basis, not cuz I need to, I just set down on my nightstand and it’s there most of the day even if I’m home all day. I can let it go for a week. But not much longer I’d miss my gf if I’m not seeing her irl for that week.

When the first video came out I was like who needs to detox, who spends so much time on their phones, that it becomes a necessity. It's now 3 months after the 2nd video, and about a month ago I took the step of detoxicing on my own without buying expensive hadgets. I gotta tell you guys it's healthy. I spend time on hobbies instead of the phone, I work instead of watching USvid etc. The only apps I still use is kik and whatsapp, becsuse that's how people call and message me. I don't have a phone number tied to a Sim so whatsapp is my primary alternative and kik are for friends who live over seas who doesn't have whatsapp.

What I'd want from a minimalist phone, in addition to phone calls: 1. Calendar, contacts, etc. synced to my cloud account. 2. Decent camera synced to cloud account. 3. Texting 4. Navigation I think most of us are used to being able to check calendar etc. from laptop or phone, and I don't think anybody wants to see that go away. Phones have become the only cameras that people own, and I don't really see a problem with that. Texting is core communication. And navigation is also important. All of the social stuff that feeds the addiction is absent, with the exception of texting. Web browsing, email, and all the rest can and should be relegated to devices that we don't carry around with us.

@ubizmo yes! This was a large piece of inspiration for the company. Currently setting up comms to have Blackberry license out messaging like they did with Punkt. Hopefully we'll have an alpha test by this December.
ubizmo 2 months ago
@this cheesecake Ironically, BlackBerry 10 inadvertently came pretty close to this. Although it aspired to be an app platform like Android and iOS, the apps never appeared in significant numbers. What was left was actually pretty good: a highly secure device for texting, email (that wasn't on my list, but it's probably okay, since email isn't what mainly distracts us these days), camera, PIM, and navigation. Although this will never happen, BlackBerry could probably re-brand BB10 as a minimalist device, removing its failed Android runtime and BBM, which BlackBerry is shuttering anyway. The underlying OS was rock solid.

Currently working on something very similar to what you have laid out here, hopefully by the end of 2022 it'll be passed for production. Monochrome home screen (color for photo), LTE/hotspot, qwerty keyboard, Bluetooth, ride-sharing/nav (garmin), plans for a 5000mA battery, 7-14 day battery, best thing about it too is our projected price is approx >$400

You can get a Nokia 6300i or 6301 for around £20/$20 off eBay if you want WiFi or the 6300 for the same price if you don't want WiFi and they have more features than the punkt phone and is way cheaper I own the 6301 because I want WiFi

Both this and the light phone are very tempting devices, but the pricing for these devices are ridiculous considering that their manufacturing costs can't be that high. There's no hd res screen, high end processor or amazing cameras, even the building techniques are simpler.

That T9 though. My friends and I could really show up some of these younger peeps who don't know what T9 is. Oh, you think you can type fast on your QWERTY board smart phone. Let me show you what fast typing sounds like XD I miss it sometimes.

Hi, cool. Best when you're commuting and you don't want to take out your expensive phone for fear of snatchers. It'll fail though if it's as expensive as a cheap multi-touch smartphone. God bless, Proverbs 31

If you're looking for a more minimal phone, pass this one for now. Horrible software bugs that make it frustrating to use. Battery life lasts 2 days at most. They asked customers to wait a month for a software update that would fix all the problems it has, but it hasn't. Was looking for a phone to reduce my distraction, but this is not it for now. A shame because it is a beautiful phone. I'm returning it.

I feel like this would be a good starter phone for elementary or middle schoolers. I have always found it ridiculous when 8-year-olds have the latest, or generation before that, phones. I had a red Samsung flip phone as my first phone. The best feature was you could make numbers go through the rainbow when you were dialing them.

Your on point with your videos, but T9. Is auto correct text , traditional you have to hit the key for the number of times for the letter you need. I loved T9 , and some smart phones can still do it ...through settings .
