Over the last few years eating meat has increasingly been associated with health risks, like heart disease, cancer and an early death. How unhealthy is meat really?

Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell
Here are our sources: sites.google.com/view/sourcesismeathealthy/ It is very fascinating to see that the both extremes, vegans and people on meat heavy diets hate this video. Usually we are attacked more from one direction - in this cases both ends of the spectrums are really upset. Anything relating to nutrition is very controversial unfortunately. Someone on twitter posted this: There is research showing strong links between dietary choices and social identity: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0195666319305549?via%3Dihub So if you want to, you can find sources telling you that every kind of diet is bad for you. We tried very hard not to do that and get a real understanding what the health effects of meat are. We also did not have a particular bias, we have vegetarians, flexitarians and meat eaters in the team. And in general, since our first meat video many of us have reduced their meat consumption or at least try to. Others in the team have not changed at all and don't plan to. We don't have an overarching agenda here, one way or the other. There is a video about milk in the making right now and we also just started a video about veganism. Look forward to more diet related videos next year.

@Heather Dyett I hate to say this, but you are bringing your personal opinion into the debate. While there certainly is negative health effect, meat should be a staple part of our daily meal. While from a brain health point of view, meat should be avoided at all cost, but from an athlete's point of view, meat is essential. There is no right and wrong in this debate. It truly is that Moderate consume of meat is not unhealthy.
蔡徐坤 23 hours ago
I have a very interesting question for u guys: If meat is bad for brain health, then, how should we really look at meat?
What type of diabetes, though? I'm assuming type 2, but I don't really want to assume.

Before I start whatching this video I have something to say. So my parents are vegetarian so they force me to be vegetarian even though I don’t care about eating meat, meat is delicious. So I asked my parents can I just stop only eating healthy stuff and eat meat and they said once I move out. So best case scenario I move out by eighteen which will take six years. *sigh*

You should consider making a video about animal agriculture and how it affects our environment. There won't be too much confusion on which side to pick. Subscribing as I'm eagerly waiting to see your take on veganism.

I'm a huge carnivore- but I agree with everything in this video. What I don't agree with is the evangelism of veganism. Vegans are stupid, they're completely wrong and they are harming the planet more than the horrendous industrial farming operations, per capita. Fake meat and fake cheese specifically are some of the worst offenders to the environment. Vegans will destroy the planet and humanity. That said, us meat eaters should reduce the amount of meat we eat for our own health. As for the planet, a good way to benefit our health and the environment in one fell swoop is to switch to buying only non-GMO, antibiotic and hormone free, free range or pasture grass fed, cruelty free meat. This meat will be much higher in quality and nutrition and it will be more expensive, so eating less of it becomes a little easier while offering the maximum benefit. Another good idea is to buy the organ meat from those same healthy, happy animals; increasing the benefit from eating meat while reducing the harm. Cutting out processed meats altogether is a great first step and incorporating more fruits and vegetables into our diets is the logical next step. Slowly reducing the amount of meat we eat is a good practice, however cutting out animal proteins entirely over generations can be harmful to humanity. Even vegetarian cultures eat milk and eggs- veganism will result in poor body function, poor brain function and birth defects and genetic mutation. Over millennia, it could even cause de-evolution of humans into simpler minded creatures. Meat consumption is directly linked to brain development and especially the parts of the brain associated with math and language. Humans would NEVER have evolved into modern humans with intelligence, language and civilization, without meat. Another thing that this video kind of touches on but fails to explain is climate. If you live in a hotter climate, you can eat less meat than you would if you lived in a cold climate. Obviously there is a spectrum, genetics and ancestry plays a part which may also be tied to cultural and religious norms, in addition to the climate factor. At the end of the day, eating cheap hot dogs and bacon every day will kill you and the planet. Eating nothing that comes from an animal is less harmful in the short term, but very harmful long term- especially over generations and millennia- provided it's produced with the current processes that are so environmentally irresponsible, they make industrial farms look better. Eating a little of everything with a vegetable and fruit bias and zero processed foods is the best way to be healthy and strong and also help the planet. Keep in mind that ethically sourced veg is just as important as ethically sourced meat. I agree, industrial farming needs to be banned. However veganism will cause more harm than good. Regulation is the only way, get into government, run for office and for God's sake- VOTE! If you don't vote you're even more evil and ignorant than the industrial farmers, hillbillies and corrupt politicians that prop them up and spread misinformation. Vegans are basically the evangelical Christians of the south, with culturally appropriated hairstyles and tattoos. Fuck white people!

Here’s a thought we could delve into... What if an intelligent life forms life span was thousands of years, and their thought process and perception of time was VERY slow? Would they seem to be in slow motion to us? Would they even notice the activities of life forms like us? Would we be like the flash to them, to fast to see? Would their perception of the universe be completely different? Let me know what you guys think of this thought experiment.

It really is intensely simple. 4 million years, across several different species that eventually became our own, all eating meat. So many seemingly think evolution is this slow, see-how-long-it-takes-the-honey-to-drip sequence that takes 30 million years to make one difference, but it's not. In truth, most of the time it only takes a few generations if that. Some people over the course of only a few millennia are now able to safely dive dozens of meters deep without even having to think about it to catch their fish, yet at our public pool that has a deep end 4m descended my ears popped and got so tight it hurt by the time I was almost at the bottom. Some people are able to live on large mountains where air is so thin they have to go down the hill to hunt, because no other wildlife lives up there. Most are able to drink the milk that comes from a species that has barely anything in common with our own (ahem, cows), but some aren't. Some people touch a cashew and go into shock. Most don't. We are able to eat meat, whether it takes us to 150 years old or not, we are able to. Speaking of that, have fun being 150. Let's say meat eating is only a million years old. Let's say the first spear/javelin is the first time humanity ever ate the meat of another animal. That's not at all how it went, but just to throw some sugar to the PETA vegans that I was literally dying after being tricked by. One million years, of what? One million years of eating meat. One million years of eating meat across billions, and billions, and so many more billions of people. Each and every one with the exception of a few who didn't, almost exclusively for religious reasons. Now, forgive me (you don't need to though because this is the opposite of an apology), but I'm now pretty hesitant to think that over the course of one million years, our bodies did nothing to be able to cope with it. That over so much time and so many people, nothing happened to turn us into omnivores that are able to live vitally off of more than plants alone. And quite frankly, the fact that simply starting to eat ham and turkey sandwiches again after 2/3 of a year being so deep vegetarian if I'd stopped eating a layer of mayo on my veggie sandwiches I'd be in the clear, has me pretty convinced that it's alright. Not the way we get it, I intend to learn hunting soon enough so I never have to put demand on a slaughterhouse ever again, but that eating it is alright on a bio-basis. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but know first you're trying to correct someone who'd otherwise be dead or at least hospitalized if he didn't say "I really want a hoagie again" one day a year and a half ago. Have fun.

Meat is bad because it causespain to other sentient beings. And human beings are not on the top of the food chain. We are not on the top of environment. We are part of environment and therefore, we don't have any right to take life of anyone unless extremely necessary.

Hire more researchers. The researcher:designer quota in your team should be around 30:70 or ideally 50:50 or in scientific dreamland: MORE RESEARCHERS THAN DESIGNERS. You are the most successful, now you need to step up your research game to grow according your ethical responsibility. And do not aim for more popularity, you are popular enough, aim for scientific accuracy.
